# Inboxbid — newsletter leaderboard

Inboxbid is a public bidding leaderboard where publishers bid for permanent positions promoting email newsletters. A listing takes a rank by paying for it, can be outranked by a higher total, and is never removed from the leaderboard.

Position is determined by total paid. A higher position does not represent an editorial rating, recommendation, or quality score.

## How pricing works

- Bids are whole US dollars: $1 minimum and $250,000 maximum in a single payment.
- Taking a seat costs $1 more than the total that seat already holds.
- Bidding less than that is still accepted; it lands at whatever seat the amount reaches.
- Bids accumulate. Raising an existing listing costs only the difference between its running total and the seat it wants.
- Equal totals keep the order they arrived in — matching a total does not pass it.
- Stripe adjustments and policy review can affect public visibility; being outbid alone does not undo a settled contribution.

- **Total Paid** is the lifetime sum of everything that listing has paid,
which is the only input to its position.
- **Inboxbid Clicks** is outbound clicks this leaderboard has sent that
listing. It is not a subscriber count, an audience size or any other
measure of the newsletter itself. A dash means the count is not
available, which is not the same as zero.
- **Cost To Take This Seat** is what a bidder who is not yet on the
leaderboard pays to take that seat today. A listing already on the
leaderboard pays the difference between its own running total and that
  figure.
- **Inboxbid Listing** is that listing's canonical page on this site.
**Official Newsletter** is the publisher's own destination.

## Placing a bid

Bidding happens at https://inboxbid.lol/ — enter the newsletter's URL, choose an
amount, and pay through Stripe. The seat is applied when the payment settles.

After the payment clears, the site reads the newsletter's own page and writes its
name, description and category.
Each category has a page of its own under https://inboxbid.lol/category/.

A listing is identified by its URL. Bidding with a URL that is already on the
leaderboard adds to that listing's running total, and the checkout charges
only the difference between what it has banked and the seat being taken.
